General Information
Apply to Volunteer
In July 2005, PCO became a partner with Global Volunteer Network, a New Zealand-based organization that sends volunteers around the world to communities in need. In June, 2008, PCO began establishing its programs in Liberia. If you are interested in coming to volunteer with PCO, please apply through Evon Sorbo, the Volunteer Coordinator (esorbo@populationcaring.org).
Choosing a Work Program
All volunteers may decide what program(s) they would like to be involved in. Some volunteers apply with a specific program in mind, while many arrive here still unsure about what they want to do. While we often have particular needs in one program over others, the choice of which program to work in is always yours.
In addition to the local workforce, PCO has a wide range of programs and activities that international volunteers can, according to experience and education, become involved in. PCO is open to the input of international volunteers with regard to both the establishment of new programs and modification in the implementation of PCO’s already existing programs.
Length of Stay
The length of your stay with us is also entirely your decision. It is recommended that you stay for at least three months in order to really gain an understanding of the culture and to achieve the most in your program of work. That being said, we understand that many peoples' schedules will not allow them to stay in Ghana that long, and we also accept volunteers who stay only for one month.
Accomodation
The organization manages guest houses in Ghana and Liberia that are able to accommodate up to 14 volunteers at a time. PCO provides volunteers with airport transfer from and to work, adequate daily food, and safe drinking water.
Our Ghana guesthouse is located in the town of Awutu, about a five minute drive outside of Buduburam camp. Transportation to and from camp is extremely easy, and PCO provides a stipend for volunteers to pay for a trotro each day. We recently setup a Guest house in the Barnersville area in Monrovia, Liberia
